I was out testing one of the few Spanish tapas restaurants in Copenhagen yesterday. The restaurant chosen to the test site was Pintxos, in Nørrebro area in the ‘’Latin neighbourhoods’’ of Copenhagen at Nansengade. Fairly small, but nicely decorated and classy place, where the waiters were friendly and helpful with the menu and wine lists. Both Spanish and local beers available and reasonably good list of Spanish wines. The list of different kind of tapas was large and I started off with some Jamon Pata Negra (bellota), that was just as good and delicious as it should be, together with 3 different kinds of Spanish cheeses ( 2 different Manchgos and a blue cheese). They matched well with the black pig ham. The long list of different tapas was actually a challenge to pick up the most interesting ones, but finally I chose very unSpanish foie gras tapas, where the goose liver pate was married with caramelised apple, and that match is made in heaven and can’t go wrong ever. Last choice was very traditional Albondigas, here made of veal. Probably the most modest dish out of them all, where the sauce was quite mild and not the spicy one with strong tomato flavour, but more vegetable type of sauce. By adding some salt and pepper even this become very eatable after all. A glass of Spanish red wine (2004 Muga Reserva Selection Especial) worked well with the tapas and a cold servecha took care of the rest. As already mentioned there was many other tapas dishes that were interesting and I guess has to be tested at a later visit. (Shrimps in garlic, Octopus Gallian way, Patatas Bravas with aioli, Tortilla Espanola and Croquettes mixtas) to mention a few. Also the restaurant has a large list of main dishes, with the Paella Valencia being one of the most interesting ones, so also needs another visit here.
