Wednesday evening I picked up an interesting restaurant Relæ to be tested, as I have read and heard so much good comments about them. This restaurant was opened 2009 by a couple of young creative guys, who already had made their name in top notch restaurants like Noma. It was also awarded a Michelin star 2012 and best new restaurant in Copenhagen award 2011. The philosophy and the idea of the restaurant is very simple, focus on the gastronomy alone, and it has paid off. It’s located in an area that used to be a bit on the dark side of Copenhagen, where bikers wearing leather vests was a common sight ( Nørrebro, Jægersborggade 41.) Now there are also other nice restaurants and Cafes and it’s a nice descent neighbourhood. They serve a 4 course dinner menu, for a reasonable price of 375 dkr, and a wine menu to match for a other 375 dkr. Started off with paper thin slices of marinated Lamb served with shrimps and dill. Nice starter with a plenty of taste and well balanced flavours worked really well with their own baked warm sourdough bread and olive oil. Next in line was a potato ‘’snow’’ of new Danish potatoes, served with hazelnuts and grated bergamot. A other great dish in its simplicity . Was hard to imagine how delicious just a plain simple course from fresh ingredients can be. Third one was Veal sweetbread with cauliflower, basil and a nice broth. Again creative and great dish where the sweetbread was sautéed on the other side and pan fired on the other, to create two different kind of textures. The tasty broth joined these tasted to a holy matrimony that it was. Dinner ended off with corn ice-cream, breadcrumbs and marjoram and even though I don’t consider myself as a big fan of sweet deserts, this was very nice and sealed the enjoyable dinner in a good way. Definitely worth a second visit.
